I was thinking about Luke Ch15 this week (includes the lost son). It interested me to see that Jesus was talking to the tax collectors and the sinners, also the Scribes and Pharisees and as well to the Disciples. For different reasons, all needed to hear the stories that He told. My life too has had me in different camps at different times but always I have needed to hear the word of God and the message of the Cross and the Kingdom. Radio is such a good place for reaching and encouraging people at all points of their lives!
I was raised in Sydney, had a safe and secure upbringing, went to church due to its environment of social enlightenment and entertainment and thought that I could manage my life as I chose, as part of a post-hippy self-focused generation. Already stirring in me was concern for the hurting and oppressed however. Anton (my husband) also had tremendous passion for those who’d been treated poorly. This drew us together.
Somehow God directed us to Orange, with 3 small children. Within 2 months my sister died and we adopted her son as well. My life, then out of my control (for many reasons), needed reassessment. Orange became the place where we all found the Lord, realised what we had missed and how much the Lord wanted to draw us to Him, for salvation (important!) and also for our time on this earth. YWAM cemented these foundations (Kings Kids and DTS) as did time at Harry Westcott’s yearly Alectown camp.
Our 2 youngest children joined us from Ethiopia 7 years ago. Together we are learning to live how the Lord wants us to live and to reach others when we can. We are now part of a strong church and love being part of the community of Christians in Orange.
